Forecasting Multiple Categories

We need to be able to forecast in multiple categories (i.e., software, services, training).  Is there a way to do this in NS?  We have figured out how to use the advanced forecasting to track an overall forecast and we use the ASA to track GP (which is used to calculate commissions) but we have yet to find a way to use the forecasting functionality in NS to forecast in various categories.

It is not a simple as just building forecast by item reports because we need to be able to use the full forecasting capability for each one of the categories (sales rep forecast, manager forecast, forecast levels, etc.).
