Turning on Team Selling - globalises contacts?

Hi,

At the moment we are set up with standard sales rep selling, which makes customers(leads etc)/contacts/opportunities, etc hidden between reps.

I need 2 reps to be able to see each others accounts and contacts (opportunities is optional - they talk to each other regularly), and 2 other reps to have their info restricted to them.

I thought team selling and departments was the way to go.  Transactions and customers stay "hidden", but contacts seem to go global and ignore department boundaries. This rather gives away the game of restricted viewing.

Hopefully this is just a configuration detail I have missed?
