Email Campaign Not Sent

An email campaign of mine was set to begin at 4:00pm yesterday and this morning it says "not started" still... scheduled for yesterday! The email campaign systems seems to be a little bit temperamental, do you need to set it to send a certain number of hours past the current time?  If you go in and edit the campaign before it is sent does it derail the process?  What reasons are there for this unsent campaign?
