Create a save search for contacts "X" distance away from event

I am not sure how many folks out there have used the program Map Point. However if you wanted to only invite contacts that were located a certain distance away from the event using that software could be a solution.

You would use Map Point to search for zip codes in a certain area; export those zip codes. Then when building your save search paste the zip codes from Map Point into your filter.

Now when sending out an email or building a contact list for an event your not calling folks that might be located to far away to attend the event.
