Automatic Follow-up Scheduling

I wanted to know if there was a feature or if anyone has written a script that would automatically prompt a user to schedule a follow-up activity after scheduling a phonecall, meeting, etc. It seems odd to me that there wouldn't be this feature in a CRM app.
