Quick search contents of custom field?

We use a custom entity field to track the name of our customer information.

We would like to search on the contents of that field, quickly - in the Global Search box at the upper right side of every Netsuite page. The data in the custom entity fields are unique to each customer - so it would be a quick way to get to specific customer records.

Question: is there a way that Global Search can include (index) selected custom fields?

We noticed that it includes results from "memo" fields in transactions - that's nice, but can we have any control over which fields are indexed and displayed in the Global Search box?
