Row Level Security

I am curious if there is a way in NetSuite to produce Row Level Security.  Clearly, column level security is straight forward by limiting views to forms and other role mechanisms.

What we need is a way to hide customer, contact and vendor data from differnent employees.  In effect, we want to assign ownership to these records to particular employees and control permissions through a tree or hierarchy structure.
