How Can Actual Close Date be corrected?

In the real world, Opportunities are not always logged as closed on the very same day the contract is signed.  Unfortunately in NS The Actual Close Date is entered automatically (field help window says "NetSuite enters the date this opportunity closed.").  If the deal closes & contract is signed at midnight on 12/31, and the Opp is updated (as Closed Won) minutes later, NS logs the order as closed in the wrong month, quarter and year.  How can this be corrected?
