Create an item for drop shippin

I know that NS has the ability to set an item as drop ship.  My question is on the reverse side.  We are the ones doing the drop shipping and I was wondering how other people have it setup?  How do you add a cost for preforming that work?

We would like to charge for drop shipping, say $1 per item and $0.25 per box.
Should we create a "non-inventory item" or "service" for purchase? Or is there another way that I am not thinking of?
