Lead Source & Campaign Categories

Hi

We are currently using both of these, but we would like to simplify things on our Opportunities.
Currently we have both fields as drop downs, but what would like is the following:

Choose the campaign category eg Shows and Conferences, then on the Lead Source it would only show the items grouped under Shows and Conferences. And the same for the other categories.

We have spent a lot of time on this trying to link it all through, but we are at a dead end.

Is there a way to do this from our end that we are not seeing?
