Partner Category cannot be set to empty once selected.

In category field of Partner record, there is no option to select a blank field?
I have populated the field with a mass update and wanted to reset some of the partners to blank, however, I have had to select something because BLANK is not an option.

Whereas in CUSTOMER CATEGORY, there is a option in the drop down list for blank.

I went to SETUP > SALES> CRM LIST > PARTNER CATEGORY/ROLES, could not create a new field with BLANK as the Category name is mandatory.
