Searching for Contact Role changes using system notes

Hello,

I am looking to create a search to find out when any of our customer contact have changed their Role. I was hoping to use the System Notes in the usual way to see when the field had been changed but when the Contact Role is updated via the Customer > Contact tab using the 'Update Primary' button no system note entries are record (as far as I can see). I have looked in the Customer record and the Contact record. Does this seem right? Surly these changes must be recorded in NetSuite in the normal way?
