Projected Total On Opportunities

Hey we use the projected total on opportunities in two phases:

First phase is to add a Projected Total for an opportunity using inline editing on a saved search (for efficiency). Second phase is to add line items. However, the projected total doesn't update if the field has been manually overwritten in phase one.

Any ideas on how to get it to recalculate?
