Pardot Interface Painfully Slow

I have been trying for quite some time to get NS to listen and really dive into their web services and how slowly they allow partnering systems to connect and transfer data. The current status is truly unacceptable. How is that Pardot and SalesForce (before they were acquired by SF) were able to sync 25k records an hour, and up to 225k records per hour if requested?
