Creating a Sales Order Report (not Saved Search) Showing Kits, not component items

A client noticed that the out of the box Sales Order Reports (example:  Open Sales Orders) did not have amounts for some line items.  In doing some investigation, this is due to the fact that Sales Order reports seem to only show component items when a kit is used.  I understand why there is no price when component items are displayed (if the price of the kit changes, it would be difficult to "roll down" the proportionate price to the components), but I was hoping there was some way to bring the Kit item, kit quantity and selling price onto
