Script to Change a Field When an Online Customer Form is Submitted

Hi

Can anyone drop me some big clues, or just plain tell me (even better) how to write and set up a script to automatically set the value or one or more custom fields when an online customer form is submitted.

I am already setting the Lead Source through workflow.

The fields in question are a check box field and a date field.
