Pre-select field on online form

On our consumer form we would like to pre-select the customer category 'consumer'. We link from our external website to this form appending the url with '&customercategory=consumer', but it does not work. Is this not possible for the customer category or is my syntax incorrect?
Also, on our trade form is it possible to hide an option from drop-down?

Any hints appreciated.
