How to auto create a task on letter merge event

Hi,

We want to auto create a task and assign it to sales rep on an event of letter merge to a customer contact or a bulk merge. I was thinking to use an afterSubmit script to achieve that but don't know which record type to deploy the script to. A letter merge or bulk merge seems to use no recordtype.

Any other way to do that?
