Updating Lead Source and Other Info Conditionally?

Hi there,

I'm trying to import some leads + contacts and some of the records might already exist, if so, I'll have to update the lead source and info like address and phone number if the contacts haven't become customers.  I tried importing a list of 50 and it created 50 leads but complaint that all contacts already existed, but in reality not all contacts exist in the system (I checked one by one).  Do I have to check one by one and get the leads' and contacts' internal IDs, create one CSV for the leads and one for the contacts, then
