Prompt for field change on Save

Hi all,

I'm looking to create something that whenever a case is updated, and the tech support rep hits the save button, it brings up a prompt that reminds them to change the status of the case from "Open" to "In Progress".

Or even better, something that changes the status of the case from Open to In Progress, once it is updated the first time.

Any suggestions?
