How to avoid losing changes when verification fails (beforeSubmit)

I'm using beforeSubmit to run verification logic on my sales orders. If it fails, I don't want to lose all of the work my users have put into the sales order (between order load and order save). Is there a way to return to the "unsaved" record such that we can maintaining the unsaved changes that were made?
