Converting list IDs to list values

Hi -

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this issue: working on a custom email script, and would like to include the text value of some list selects (both built-in lists like lead source, as well as some custom lists).  However, Netsuite only seems to return the ID of the list item as the value, and I've been through the entire API reference, and haven't come across any way to lookup a list ID to retrieve the text value.  Can anyone point me on the right path?
