SQL for Current Time

Whats the SQL syntax to get the current time in 24H format?

I tried a few options such as
TO_CHAR(SYSDATE,'HH24:MI')
TO_CHAR(NOW(),'HH24:MI')
but get an error (ERROR: Invalid Expression)

Can anyone help?
