Order (sort) nlapiSearchRecord results

The SuiteScript documentation describes how to filter and identify columns in a nlapiSearchRecord.  I'm need to order (sort) the results of the search by a couple of columns.  I even tried to run a saved search, but the results are ordered by record internalid instead of by the saved search sort order.

Has anyone successfully sorted a search result through SuiteScript?
