Invalid Search Join ID

I haven't found a good example of a Search Join, so I have tried a variety of ways with the same result. 

Here is my latest attempt.  Any help would be appreciated.

filters[2] = new nlobjSearchFilter('author', 'note', 'anyof', 159864, null);

The error received: Error: INVALID_SEARCH_JOIN_ID

Any suggestions?
