XMLHTTP Object

We are trying to use the XMLHTTP object on the customer form to send a command to a remote server to provision hardware. When we use the XMLHTTP object we get a series of generic error messages. We have been unable to find examples of XMLHTTP in the NetSuite documentation; leading us to believe it is not available to use. We have however, found numerous samples of SOAP being used. So I guess the question is

1. Can we use the XMLHTTP object in NetSuite?
