Redirecting from client script

I have a client script that needs to redirect a user to a specific record if some criteria fail.  I tried using nlapiSetRedirectUrl but it didn't seem to have any effect - I suspect it is a server side only function?

What I ended up doing is using window.location, but if there is a supported method to accomplish the same thing I would rather use that.

Anyone redirecting from client script using NL methods?
