Item Receipt fields returning null.

I am trying to get the values from the following fields of an Item Receipt.(release 2007)
Item
Serial/Lot Numbers

 itemReceiptRecord = nlapiGetNewRecord();  itemIntId = itemReceiptRecord.getFieldValue("item");    serialNumbers = itemReceiptRecord.getFieldValue("serialnumbers");


But these are returning null.Any idea?
