Is the documentation wrong?

The SuiteScript Reference Guide shows the Name field on Custom Records is referenced with 'name', yet I can only get it to work with 'altname'.  Is this a documentation problem?  Also is 'altname' supported or is it just a hack I have been doing?  I'd like to make sure my scripts are all "SUPPORTED" so they don't break with releases.
