Type selected in the Case/Task/Event field on the timeentry form.

Is there a way to know the type selected in the Case/Task/Event is a Case or Task or Event?
Also is it possible in serverscript to do a timeentries search with filter as the "Case/Task/Event"?

Any help is appreciated.
