Merge a template and send fax

I need to send a fax from script (client or server - I'm flexible!)

I don't think this is possible, but maybe someone has found a way?

I tried using nlapiMergeTemplate then sending an email to <fax number>@efaxsend.com but it makes a total mess of the fax (signature images blown up to cover an entire page, insert a cover sheet, etc.  Not a good option.
