Searching partner/customer records from an online form

Hey Guys,

Is it possible to search on partner and/or customer records using custom code on an online order form?

We would like our customer to be able to enter a partner code on an online form and have a OnFieldChange script search the partner records to check whether it is a valid partner code field or not, and if not prompt the user.

I don't think that it is possible by default, but was wondering if i fiddled with the permissions for the customer centre that this might be possible?

Alternatively, i can create a custom record and populate it with the list of partners and have the OnFieldChange script reference the custom record but that is a bit more admin?
