How to check whether a transaction with a given internal id exists.

What is the best way to check whether a transaction with a given internal id exists in the account.

The use case is :
I have a script which saves the internalid's of transactions to a hidden field. And another script updates that transaction with some data.When I updates that transaction ,I need to make sure that the transaction is not deleted.

Any help is appreciated.
