nlapiScheduleScript Permisions

I have a user event script that calls nlapiScheduleScript this works great when run by and administrator but fails with an INSUFFICIENT_PERMISSION error when triggered by a user (employee).

Does the users role need specific permissions? Is this a setting related to the script?

Any help appreciated.
