Alternate Sales Amount

Does anyone have any example code for setting the alternate sales amount?
I have written Client scripts to calculate exactly what I want to set as the Alternate sales amount, but simply cannot seem to write this into the altsalesamt field.

Can this be done with Client scripts?

Any help would be appreciated.
