Passing a product to cart

Hi

Being a useless scripter, I have come to you all for some help, if you may.

Is it possible to add an item to the cart in this scenario:

If promocode=X then add Z x product to cart, whereby Z = NLCARTITEMTOTAL and product = let's say,

Ideally, we would like this item to appear as the last line entry within the sales order.

I wouldn't know where to start but if anyone has an idea (or preferably a script!) that would rock!
