Trick to move fields from body to tabs, etc

I'm trying to avoid created a pure-SuiteLet form.  The only thing holding me back is the apparent inability to move forms around between tabs and to and from the body to a tab.

For example, let's say that I have a field (I actually have 30+) on one tab and I want to move it up to the body (or whatever it's called..) via script.

I know I can customize the form in the UI, but that won't work for my setup.

Am I missing something?  Anyone found a way to do this?
