nlapiLoadRecord throwing UNEXPECTED_ERROR

I'm trying to load a bunch of sales tax items in a scheduled script but keep receiving an UNEXPECTED_ERROR upon:

var tempTaxItem = nlapiLoadRecord(recordType, recordId);

I've filed case 743215 but was unable to find more information about the error.  It works fine in a client context but anything server side throws the same error.  Anything special about nlapiLoadRecord that I should be aware of when executing on the server?
