Popups

I have a custom field on the Transaction Item level which is used to keep track of any custom configuration options for that item for that transaction only. This information is too much to display on the line level, so I want it to be a link that opens the information in a popup window. I can code the page as a suitelet to display the information for that item, but how can i create a popup window from within netsuite itself? I am actually using two fields, one for the link, and one for the data (which is hidden).
