Last Time Item Sold to Specific Customer

I have two pieces of information available to me.

1. Item ID (XXXXX)
2. CustomerID (YYYYY)

Using this information I need to retrieve and load the invoice for the last time this item was sold to that customer. I know I can initiate a search of invoices based on the ItemID + CustomerID can I don't see how I can issue a 'order by' of the search in order to retrieve only the last invoice (by date desc).

Has anyone done this?
