Update stock in website without external catalog site

I have a website with a non-Netsuite cart (Zen Cart) and want to keep the stock of each item up to date.

It this an implementable plan in Netsuite:
Keep the stock of items allocated to website purchases and allocated to Netsuite purchases (ie. for in-house sales samples, etc) separate?

[*]Website item stock updates (in Netsuite) can be updated/pushed to the website
[LIST]
[*]Not sure how though with Web services or subXML, and script scheduling..although really it would be more helpful to have this push happen at the instant more items are in stock rather than at a set time each day/week
