Performing an OR expression in nlobjSetFilter

Is there a way to use an OR operator for a search using nlapiSearchRecord?

For example, I want to search a date field for any date after today or if the date field is empty

Find [date_field] onorafter today OR [date_field] isempty

Could not find any documentation on OR operator so having doubts. Note: can't do saved search...
