Inserting values into a custom list through a script

Hi All,

Is there any way to add values to a custom list through scripting.

This is my scenario:

I have a custom list.  On clicking a button, I have to fetch values from other custom record and add those values to a list, so that i allow user to select one option from the list.  I went through the suitescript guide and found that adding a new value to a list is not possible.  Is there any other way to add values to the list through scripting dynamically?

Any help is appreciated.
