Customer Number Customization

We have multiple storefronts from which we do business. One thing we've thought of that might be helpful would be to prefix customer numbers with a letter corresponding to each storefront. The numbers could still be unique.

Example:

A000123 - Joe's Bar and Grill (customer of Storefront A)
B000124 - Joe's Bar and Grill (purchasing from Storefront

etc


This is a repost from the parent forum, but I am thinking this must be done via some sort of SuiteScript.  However, I'm not even sure where I would start on this.
