Recurrence/Frequency on CalendarEvent

I am having trouble trying to script an event with recurrence dates (aftersubmit).  Is scripting of _frequency not supported.  The thread link below describes this a possible defect and should have been fixed.  Not sure what to believe.

The current documentation includes all of the fields in the scriptable records section, but nothing seems to work.  Has anyone had experience with this issue?
