Script the creation of a PDF message record?

Hi

I've been trying to script the creation of a message record and attach a script-generated PDF to it, so the generation of the PDF is recorded on the messages tab, just like the "PDF" UI button does.

I can create generate and save the PDF file and create the message but can't see how to attach the saved PDF file to the message record.  Also, the "Email Sent" column on the Messages tab always has "Yes" against the message, even though it wasn't emailed.

Does anyone know how to do this or even if it is possible?
