objField datatype issue - percent type

I have an issue whereby I am doing some calculations and then put the result into a percent data type field on a Suitelet.

The problem is that I get the following error:
You have entered an Invalid Field Value -77.9876 for the following field: w_ov

So the percentage field is not an Float, and I have also tried '-77.9876%' and also '-779876'

So how can I set this field type to a calculated value?
