Determine attendee type

How can I determine the type of an attendee on an event?  For example, if I create an event on my calendar and invite a customer, listed on the attendee tab will be a contact (me), and a customer.  In my aftersubmit code I am looping thru the attendee sublist, but I only want to perform a certain action if the current line item is a customer.
