Get record Id from newly created record in a suitelet

Hello,

I am using a suitlet to create a new contact record using the following code

var record = nlapiCreateRecord( 'contact');                   record.setFieldValue( 'entityid', request.getParameter('contactName'));         record.setFieldValue( 'company', request.getParameter('CompanyID'));         record.setFieldValue( 'email', request.getParameter('Email'));         record.setFieldValue( 'phone', TelNo);         record.setFieldValue( 'mobilephone', Mobile);         record.setFieldValue( 'customform','-40');         id = nlapiSubmitRecord(record, true);


After using nlapiSubmitRecord I would like to get the id of the record I have just created. How do I do this. I have tried

var ref = record.getFieldValue('id');


but this does not retrieve anything. Anyone know how I can get the NetSuite id of the record?
