Custom Code with Server Script

I am trying to create invoices from a script.  The form we use has a few functions (Page Init, Recalc) which create line items and update certain fields on the invoice.

The question is do these functions execute when I create the record using nlapiCreateRecord('invoice')?

The error I'm getting after trying to create the record is:
"You must enter at least one line item for this transaction"

Since the Page Init function creates the line item, based on values in the Customer Record, I'm thinking that either the Page Init function is not running or the script is not loading the customer record and creating the invoice from it.  My (simplified) code is:
